Europe Gets a New BIM Library

February 1, 2016 | Comments

If you design mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems, MagiCloud will likely be a handy resource for you.

MagiCloud is a newly launched building information modeling (BIM) library specifically for European MEP professionals and boasts a whopping total of more than one million BIM objects. Of these, over 50,000 are listed as free downloads.

An MEP BIM Library

Every building model requires copious amounts of information, but MEP designers have it worse than many. These arrays have far more information than you might expect and every detail can have a huge impact on the final design.

From pressure ratings down to the smallest measurements, everything has to be just so. BIM can help facilitate these designs by organizing all of the information into metadata and assigning this data to geometric representations of actual product models.

In a way, this presents a huge advantage for industries like MEP. After all, designers won’t have to create individual models from scratch and subsequently try to find the appropriate information to go with these models. It’s all located in one place.

Interoperability

As its name may suggest, MagiCloud is the brainchild of MagiCAD creator Progman Oy. However, the library isn’t limited to its parent software.

Thanks to a series of free plug-ins, Revit MEP and AutoCAD users will also have access to the extensive library, which reportedly already hosts objects from manufacturers in various countries.

3D models and relevant technical information are downloadable in RFA and/or DXF formats, depending on the manufacturer.

BIM for Europe

Although the repository will be available globally, Progman is touting MagiCloud as the largest collection to date of BIM models from European manufacturers.

This has the potential to come in handy as the BIM design platform and process becomes mandatory in various European countries. It will also encourage European designers to use local building products in BIM projects.

“The new MagiCloud library makes our accurate BIM models accessible to all MEP designers around the world,” said Jukka Nyman, operations director at Progman.

“Furthermore, it opens the door for designers to use BIM,” Nyman continued. “It’s critical that designers can adopt a BIM approach where all the key stakeholders in a build can collaborate efficiently and effectively during the design phase.”
