The CUSTOMIZE command enables you to define or redefine
shortcut keys. The changes will affect the associated menu
files.
If you are not familiar with menu files read the following
tutorial first:

AutoCAD Menus: The Base Menu
Note:
This tutorial is designed for AutoCAD 2004 though might be
applicable for other releases.
1. Start AutoCAD
2004.
2. Invoke CUSTOMIZE
(Tools > Customize > Keyboard). The Customize dialog box
will appear [Figure 1].

3. Make sure that
ACAD is selected in the Menu Group list.
4. From the
Categories list select Format Menu [Figure 2].

5. From the
Commands list select Units [Figure 2].

6. Click in the
Press new shortcut key box [Figure 3].
7. Press Ctrl+U.
The [Unassigned] note assures you that you can safely use
this combination for the UNITS command [Figure 4].

8. Click Assign.
9. Click Show All.
A list of available shortcut keys including the new one appears
[Figure 5].

10. Click OK.
11. Close the
dialog box.
12. Press Ctrl+U.
The Drawing Units dialog box appears [Figure 6].
