A/E/C Systems Reverses Decline?

It's the Internet, says Cadalyst

July 24, 2000 - A/E/C Systems, the best and biggest of CAD-related trade shows, may have reversed its downward trend in attendance with its recent June show in Washington DC that recorded 16,236 attendees -- an increase of 7% over the previous year. This is a welcome change for Penton Media, owners of the show, after 3 straight years of declining attendance. The number of exhibitors continues to drop, however, as 30 fewer exhibitors rented space on the floor than in 1999.

A/E/C Systems reverses downward trend in attendance because of the Internet, says Cadalyst magazine.

Many industry observers have credited an overall decline in the attendance of trade shows to the Internet. After all, why spend several thousand dollars for airfare, hotels etc., when information about products and services is often freely available over the Internet? Not so, says Art Liddle of Cadalyst magazine, who credits interest in the Internet for the rise in attendance. Of the 270 companies at the show, more than 70 offered extensive Internet-related services.
