This week SolidWorks, a Dassault Systèmes company, acquired U.K.-based Priware Limited, developer of CircuitWorks software. The move strengthens SolidWorks in the race among CAD companies for better tools to integrate mechanical and electrical designs in one “mechatronic” CAD platform.

According to BCC Research, the electronics industry will reach $3 trillion by 2012. CircuitWorks allows engineers to integrate ECAD files into their 3D models and 2D drawings. Before the acquisition CircuitWorks was a SolidWorks Gold Partner Product.

CircuitWorks allows engineers to ensure electronic components such as printed circuit boards will fit and work correctly in their products while working in a SolidWorks design window.
